Lugang is like most small towns in Taiwan, concrete and ugly. However, a small section of it has some of the best preserved buildings and oldest temples in Taiwan. Along with that, it has also great side streets full of excellent taiwanese food and some aptly named alleys; nine turns alley and breast touching alley.
As we arrived there late, the town was empty of tourists, so it gave me the chance to take lots of photos. However, I took a lot of photos of doorways in Lugang, far too many. But it could not be helped, they are just so photogenic.
On the day we were visiting, it happened to be a good Lunar day, and so many of the gods from the other local temples came to visit Matsu (one of the top Gods in Taiwan) at her temple (for a cup of tea and a chat I suppose). This involves lots of fireworks and bangers, loud music, dragon dancing, huge puppets, people walking strangely and a whole lot of noise! It was so cool!

I think these guys are called 'See a thousand leagues' and 'Hear a thousand leagues'
