A while I was invited to go hiking with a guy who is called the General. He was a General in the air force and now that he has retired he spends his weekends hiking. The Taiwanese guys told me this hike was an easy one, the western guys told me otherwise. It might be easy for them, but for us it would be hell. And hell it was. I have hiked a few places in China and here in Taiwan, but this was by far the toughest one I have ever done. The sights were amazing, but the length and the uphill return hike just killed us.
Before the hiking, we were taken to a few of the sights in a village near the hike route.
A very random old catholic church hidden in a small village
The General had these orange socks, and I didn't, which worried me as he obviously knew something I didn't. I would soon find out what they were for!
The start: Our aim was to hike to an aboriginal village
Break time
This guy hiked the whole way barefoot!
Remember the orange socks, well they protect you from leeches. This leech latched onto my leg, but fortunately he hadn't been there long, as he still still seemed quite small.
The General told us that when we reached the village, we could buy a few cold beers. That thought kept us going. However, when we got there, the place was deserted.
After an hour rest, we turned round and made our way back
Hiking back took a long time, and night began to fall.
Finally back at one of the guy's home, his wife cooked up a feast for us.
